About the game
The chicks have wandered off across the ranch, and the foxes have noticed.
Chicks on the Menu! is an online 3v5 game of chase and rescue for up to 8 players. The chickens race the clock to round up lost chicks and lead them home. The foxes hunt the chickens down and lock them in cages before they can finish.
How it plays
Up to five chickens face up to three foxes. The chickens play a game of scouting, herding and teamwork. The foxes play one of pursuit, ambush and guarding.
Win by getting every chick home.
Chicks roam the ranch on their own and bolt when a fox gets close.
Walk up to a chick and call it, and it follows wherever you go, even across the river.
Inside the coop a chick is safe. Get taken down on the way and any chick following you panics and bolts, and someone has to find it again.
Win by caging every chicken, or by keeping the chicks out until time runs out.
It takes two hits to knock a chicken off its feet, and a chicken left alone long enough shakes the first one off.
Grab the downed chicken and haul it away. Carrying slows you down, and a chicken held too long wriggles free.
Lock it in. Every catch becomes a tense run to the nearest cage.
A caged chicken isn’t out of the match. Any teammate can reach the cage and work the lock open, but it takes a few seconds and they have to stay put while they do it. Get chased off or knocked down and the rescue starts over. Foxes must decide whether to guard their catch or go hunting for more.
Feathers and abilities
Glowing feathers appear around the map. Grab one and you get a random ability for your team. You can hold only one at a time, so use it or toss it to make room for the next.
A burst forward, a huge leap and a slow glide down. Enough to clear a fence, or a fox.
Lob an egg that goes off in a blinding flash. It whites out everyone looking at it, teammates included, so call it out first.
Drop it behind you mid-chase. The fox that steps on it goes flying, and the faster it was running, the further it goes.
Throw yourself forward in a straight line and hit whatever chicken you reach.
A few seconds of blistering speed with almost no steering. Deadly on a straight, a disaster in a corner.
Set a trap that chickens can’t see until they’re nearly on top of it. A caught chicken is thrown into the air and pinned, and every fox is alerted.
More unique abilities are on the way.
The ranch
The ranch is not scenery. Most things on it can hide you, launch you or bite you.
Shortcut, at a price
Three arms of river run through the ranch. You can swim them, but you are much slower in the water and the current drags you along with it. Get carried to the edge of the map and you wash up on the nearest bank, dazed for a moment.
Hide
Dive into a big haystack and nobody outside can see you. Anyone who climbs in after you can, as a silhouette.
Climb
Obstacles to get around and platforms to get on top of. Square bales stay put. Round ones roll when you push them.
Launch
Step on one and it flings you a long way in a set direction. Fox or chicken, you land in a ragdoll heap and need a moment to get up.
Travel
Drop into a rabbit hole and come out of the one it is linked to, somewhere else on the ranch.
Hazard
Get too close and a snake lunges out. Dodge at the right moment and you get away. Get bitten and your controls are reversed for a while.
High ground
Walkways up in the trees give you height, and the upper hand, in parts of the ranch.
One player hosts a room and shares a join code, and everyone else types it in. The host picks the round length and decides whether players choose their own teams or get shuffled at random.
Chicks, cages and feathers turn up somewhere new every round, and the number of chicks scales with the number of chickens playing.
